Heaven’s above

Heavens above. What is heaven?

A mythical place beyond the clouds, imagined as a world of golden gates where we meet our maker. Is there a moment when we stand before those gates and answer the questions that determine our fate, whether we are welcomed through into heaven or turned away to the darkness of hell?

Or is heaven something much closer to us, found in the moments of love, beauty, connection and wonder we experience here on Earth?

Heavens Above

Do we transition into blackness? Float back to our planets in the galaxy? Are our loved ones waiting for us on the other side?

I was fascinated years ago by this subject: what happens when we die. I read Proof of Heaven: A Neurosurgeon’s Journey into the Afterlife by Dr Eben Alexander, a neurosurgeon who wrote about his own experience with severe meningitis and coma. I also read the letters he received from people who had read his book and experienced being clinically dead and then revived.

It had me thinking differently about death — that maybe, when my life comes to an end, it might not be so bad. My spiritual work as a reader and healer for over 30 years gives me great insight into what we believe, what gives us hope and our thoughts about what happens to our loved ones when they die.

As a psychic reader, I have different abilities, including seeing those who have passed over, and I always feel privileged to relay what I see and any messages they have. It is often a great comfort to those I’m reading for and a reminder to me not to leave things unsaid, and to try to reconcile any grievances I feel are important to me.

I had someone very close to me die a couple of years before I painted these works, and through the process I was filled with love and joy remembering this loved one. Purple, for me, is royalty. Lime green, mulberry, violet and gold are some of my favourite colours. To me, they are colours worthy of a royal passage to the underworld with style.
