Magenta – Pencil drawing on paper – larger than actual size
Michelle’s Notes:
“Magenta” and “Queen Bee” are two 9″ by 5″ pencil drawings I entered in the Walker Street Gallery 9 x 5 Exhibition.
This exhibition has its roots in an interesting bit of Australian history.
Artists in Australia around the dawn of the 20th century created artworks using the lids of cigar cases – 9″ by 5″ in size. This was necessary due to frugality but created a suite of amazing vignettes from that period. The Walker Street Gallery in Australia continues this tradition by staging a “9 by 5” exhibition, restricting submitting artists to this size work.
